Based centrally in Dubai, Safa British School is an international school with 1535 students made up of 83 nationalities. We are a growing school; going from primary only to a full through-school with our first cohort of students about to take their GSCEs - over the last five years, our student number has increased in size by 102%.
In the school, 69% of our students are EAL, 88 students are Emirati and 17% are classed as Students of Determination (SEND). As a school, we are renowned for our community feel, inclusive environment and our second-to-none approach towards wellbeing. Staff, students and parents describe being "Purple" - we may be incredibly diverse but we are all the same.

School goals and ambitions
By applying for this award, we hope to shine a spotlight on our practices related to pupil resilience and improve awareness for staff and students. We hope to review our mission statement, identify areas of strength and development in terms of pupil resilience integration in our curriculum. The award journey will showcase our achievements and contributions to developing a culture of pupil resilience as well as gaining recognition and identifying opportunities for further growth and advancement. As a school with a reputation for outstanding wellbeing and pastoral support, recognising resilience is the golden thread that ties together our school culture.

Impact school context
We designed a bespoke Safa Wellbeing Curriculum with five core elements, each tied to the language of resilience. These were integrated across our curriculum and specifically into our moral, social and cultural studies lessons. Our Safa Learning Gears were also redesigned and rebranded, focusing on resilience in learning, and introduced to children one by one with an emphasis on language of resilience.
Staff received CPD on the Gears and Elements. Lesson observations confirmed its effective use. Inspirational speakers demonstrated resilience, endlessly inspiring students and staff. This holistic approach ensured the language of resilience became a fundamental part of our school's culture.
