School context
Harford Manor is a complex needs school in Norfolk for pupils from 3-19 yrs. based in the city of Norwich. The catchment area is countywide. We were judged outstanding in 2008, 2010, 2015 and 2019. There are currently 99 pupils on roll, 78 male, 21 female, from all socio-economic backgrounds and of whom 15 are from an ethnic background other than White British. Every child attending Harford Manor has an EHCP which describes their complexity of needs, the vast majority of our pupils have severe learning difficulties and approximately 75% also have a diagnosis of ASD or additional health needs. We currently have 34 entitled to Pupil Premium, 8 are LAC children.
School goals and ambitions
Our goal is to build pupil confidence and resilience and ultimately have a positive impact on their wellbeing. We aim to do this through providing the pupils with the strategies to help them become emotionally resilient. This will be done in a variety of ways including developing outdoor learning across the school. We will
develop spaces in school and use the local and extended community.
We are aiming to develop resilience through our MAGIC Awards which focus on 5 areas of Well-being, mindful, active, giving, interested , connecting. We aim for each class to access Outdoor learning, not only learning outside but also about learning about the environment and interacting with others.

Impact school context
Outdoor learning is across the curriculum and the Key Stages. The students are all aware of it and it isn't seen as an add on but an integral part of learning. The outdoor spaces are timetabled. The environment has been improved and the students are more engaged with their learning. Parental awareness and involvement has increased/ The Harvest festival focus was on Outdoor learning activities ; from apple picking to gathering conkers and sorting leaves by shape and colour.
The MAGIC awards have an element of outdoor learning and students take part in activities on the broads , the beaches and forests in Norfolk. Staff are trained in Outdoor learning and delver enriching lessons .

School goals and ambitions
We are aiming to rebuild pupil confidence after two years which have impacted greatly upon their emotional wellbeing. We aim to do this through providing the pupils with the strategies to help them become emotionally resilient. This will be done by using Zones of Regulation which is already embedded across the school. We will develop spaces in each class where pupils can have time to regulate.
We want to see positive language and the language of Zones used across the school community including parents/carers and all staff through CPD.
We are aiming to develop resilience through our MAGIC Awards which focus on the 5 areas of Well-being, mindful, active, giving, interested , connecting.

This is an area we were already strong in. Since I wrote the statement of intent this has continued but also been expanded to integrate the MAGIC awards too. This has resulted in an increase in the tools the students have in their tool box to develop resilience. We have seen a big increase in the use of mindfulness techniques from yoga, breathing exercises to sensory activities.
The impact on the pupils is that they have developed strategies to manage times when they feel dysregulated. Many of our pupils can recognise now when they need some space or an Occupational Therapy strategy. This has impacted positively on their ability to cope in difficult situations

The school is now using a common language of the Zones. MAGIC is now being used across the curriculum and pupils have a rich resource of tools and strategies to help them regulate . Oyr curriculum aims to look at establishing long term well being as well as helpinhg the students to recognise their emotions and regulate. It has been wonderful seeing the school come back together and work together again. The heart of the school has returned and pupil confidence appears to have increased.
We use Creative Arts as wel as PSHE and all classes use the outside environment and practice mindfulness.

School goals and ambitions
We are aiming to improve Staff wellbeing. We aim to reduce the stigma around mental health and be a supportive school where staff feel they can talk openly without judgement.
We hope that staff feel supported and have groups they can engage with. It is important that staff feel valued and appreciated and we will be looking at ways in which this can be embedded but not tokenistic and that each member of staff feels valued.
We aim to increase training opportunities for more members of staff to have Mental Health training.

We have changed and implemented several different strategies since I wrote the statement of intent.
A new Staff Well-being Policy has been written. We have a new provider Education Mutual to help support Staff through counselling . Staff are also supported by Listening Ears which is an internal group that we have in school. We have aimed to show staff appreciation more by introducing more initiatives. We have a shout out board, a mindful activity each week and a kindness box in the staff room.
We have incorporated the Be Kind message into our Code of Conduct
