Zarina Connolly is the author of the Pupil Resilience Award. Watch Zarina explain how to strengthen pupils’ emotional development and confidence as she introduces the eight benchmarks of the Pupil Resilience Award.
Nurturing resilient pupils
This award gives you simple and effective strategies to support your school’s work in developing pupil resilience. It will enable pupils to:
- bounce back from adversity
- take on challenges and manage risk
- navigate the complexities of the society in which they live
- empower themselves as digital citizens
- understand financial literacy
- recognise the value of effort and not just attainment
- develop a restorative justice approach to relationships
- explore attitudes to themselves and others.
Eight strategies to strengthen pupil resilience
There are eight benchmarks in the Pupil Resilience Award. Within each benchmark are six intentions. You choose the three intentions that will have most impact in your school:
- Promote resilience through the school ethos and culture.
- Provide strategies to become emotionally resilient.
- Embed the language of resilience across your school.
- Encourage pupils to take on new challenges.
- Help pupils become financially resilient.
- Encourage a growth mindset.
- Promote digital resilience.
- Help pupils develop healthy relationships.
