Catchgate Primary School lies within North West Durham in an area formerly populated by the mining community and surrounding heavy industry. We are an aged 2-11 school offering government funded free 2 year play and learn sessions, pre-school nursery and primary education from Reception to Year 6. We currently have 250 children on our roll across all age ranges. School employs 41 members of staff; as a staff we are inclusive, with the collective understanding that our being here is for the children. Attendance is below that of national figures. The percentage of children entitled to Free School Meals is 44% the % of children entitled to Pupil Premium is 52%. SEND = 24% of our school.
School goals and ambitions
All children across the key stages are given the same opportunities and encouraged to thrive the best way in which they can. We encourage children to have aspirations but set realistic goals so that children understand some choices and/or professions may not be suitable for all and to highlight that the achieve their goals, children must work hard.
Children receive a balanced, enriched curriculum which is monitored and evaluated by Leaders across the school year. Beginning and end points as well as WOW events celebrate our curriculum themes and focus. Our goal is to engrain outdoor learning in all aspects of our curriculum allowing staff and children to naturally revert to the outdoors.

Impact school context
As a school we offer a wide range of learning, which involves some aspects of being outdoors. We Evidence this on a variation of media platforms. We have achieved this by editing planning to ensure that there is a weekly outdoor learning session taking place. Staff are getting better at getting photographs so then they can be uploaded onto the school website, which now has an outdoor learning page as well as a Forest School to share with parents and grandparents. After school clubs are working great with Forest Rangers working closely with Gardening club. As a school both children and parents have taken on Outdoor learning they ensure they have the correct clothing and footwear.
