Almost all (91.2%) pupils are of White British heritage and 2.3% speak English as an additional language (EAL). Mobility is in line with the national average and 8.3% of pupils receive SEND support.
School goals and ambitions
It is estimated that 1 in 6 children in England have a mental health problem; sadly, that figure is often higher across Teesside. The impact of Covid-19 on children’s mental health is being felt across schools in the UK, with children’s charities reporting nearly a 40% deterioration in children’s mental health starting from ages as young as 5. On this award journey, we aim to show the school’s commitment to pupil wellbeing ensuring that it is thoroughly embedded in our curriculum and day-to-day school life. Overall, our ultimate goal is to ensure we have a preventative approach to mental health, wherein children are triaged and their mental health needs are appropriately managed.

Impact school context
Since starting the award, Park End Primary has shown its commitment the social, emotional and mental health of all of our pupils, ensuring that wellbeing is thoroughly embedded in our curriculum and day to day school life. We have ensured this through thorough policy reviews, deep dives into our curriculum subjects, CPD for staff, wellbeing initiatives across school and external agency support. In doing so, we have ensured that we have a structured, tiered and preventative approach to mental health wherein all children and families are fully supported.
