School context
Choppington is a small Primary school in Northumberland with 121 currently on roll. It is situated in an area of high deprivation (IMD decile 3) and the school has had the highest levels of PP in the entire county (76%). The community historically centred around the mining industry but when the mines closed, the area was impacted greatly. SEND in the school is heavily populated with SLCN issues with a growing number of children with SEMH difficulties. There are currently no children in school with EAL and there is a lack of diversity amongst pupils and residents in the local community.
School goals and ambitions
Having taken over as Headteacher following 5 years at the school (3 years as Assistant Head), it was clear that morale amongst staff was low. Over the previous 18-24 months, there had been a visible decline in the relationships between staff and leadership due to a number of issues. Having witnessed the rapid progress that the school enjoyed several years before with the same team, I was keen to address this as a priority. Conversations with staff indicated that they were also keen to cultivate these relationships once more. Moving forwards on the award journey, I hope to help create a better balance for staff whilst also creating a more enjoyable workplace to benefit both staff and chn.

Impact school context
Since writing the statement of intent, there have been numerous changes to the staffing here at Choppington. We focused recruitment on building capacity in leadership roles and have since appointed a new Assistant Head with Year 5/6 teaching responsibility and and new Year 3/4 teacher with SEND responsibilities. As a small school, this is significant as it means that some of the evidence, notably measuring impact from previous approaches has been difficult to collect.
