School context
Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Durham, County Durham, England, for ages 3-18 (pre-prep to sixth form), with about 750 pupils on roll. Most are day pupils; a minority board. It has a Church of England ethos but is non-selective as an independent school. The Durham School was founded in 1414 and in 2021, merged with The Choristers Prep School to become the Foundation. We have 39 pupils receiving EAL support. 22% of 460 pupils on roll at the senior school are receiving learning support; above national average.
School goals and ambitions
Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation’s award journey for pupil wellbeing aims to embed a whole-school culture where every child is known, valued and supported to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. We seek to strengthen inclusive practice, early identification and targeted support, ensuring pupil voice is central and wellbeing is woven through teaching, pastoral care, worship and co-curricular life. We hope to equip pupils with resilience, confidence and compassion, enabling them to thrive in school and beyond, grounded in our Christian ethos, strong pastoral systems and community.

Impact school context
DCSF has now embedded a whole-school approach to wellbeing, where every child understands the fundamental make-up to what wellbeing is and the connections to physical, emotional and mental health, amongst other strands. Our pupil voice and participation in supporting wellbeing, has increased across the Foundation in both the wider school activities and pastoral care of the community.
