Holme Valley Primary School is a two-form entry community school located in Bottesford, a suburban district on the southern edge of Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. The school currently has 416 children on roll, ranging from EYFS to Y6. Nearly three quarters of its pupils live within 1km of school, but about 10% of its pupils live more than 2km away.

The school has 18% Pupil Premium, 11% SEND and 8.7 EAL, a large proportion of which are of Eastern European origin. The number of disadvantaged pupils has risen sharply in the last 10 years.
School goals and ambitions
We have noticed, particularly since the pandemic, that our children are not as resilient to challenge as they once were, and that their intrinsic desire to overcome challenge has diminished. Our ultimate aim is to embed an ethos of resilience in the children so that they can strive to be the absolute best they can be, and so that they realise that anything is possible if you just keep trying. We would also like to strengthen the emotional resistence of the children, and enable them to recognise that maintaining good mental, as well as physical health, can enable them to take on life's challenges and succeed.

The school has continued to grow over the last few years and we have continued to see a number of children with mental health issues in school, and children with little resilience. We have worked hard as a school to support these children and give them the best possible chance of learning.
