School context
Crosby High School is an 11–16 special school with around 175 pupils and a wide range of SEND needs. We operate two models: Base classes for pupils with higher needs and secondary-style classes for others. The staff team has experienced significant disruption following leadership and structural changes, which affected wellbeing and created division. A new acting headteacher is now leading the school through a period of rebuilding—strengthening curriculum, restoring trust, and improving staff wellbeing while addressing the challenges of change and accountability. This context has left a legacy of low trust and wellbeing concerns, making rebuilding culture and morale a central school priority.
School goals and ambitions
Our goal is to strengthen staff wellbeing, trust, and cohesion while leading significant change ahead of Ofsted. We aim to protect staff from increased workload and anxiety through clear communication, support, and realistic expectations. We recognise that a small number of staff still feel disillusioned following past restructuring and leadership changes, but we are committed to supporting everyone and rebuilding a positive, united, and resilient school culture.

Since our Statement of Intent, we have embedded a range of initiatives to improve workload, wellbeing, and staff cohesion. The shortened school day and communication protocol have supported work–life balance. Wellbeing drop-ins, the new staff wellbeing app, and staff recognition systems are now established. Workload Impact Assessments and simplified reporting reduced pressures. An additional large staff room with three individual quiet rooms has been created to support rest and focused work. Surveys show stronger trust, communication, and morale, with a more cohesive culture emerging.
