We are a specialist secondary school situated in Bolton providing a high quality of education for our learners with severe, profound and complex learning difficulties. Co-located with Bolton St Catherine’s Academy, the school is well appointed with up-to-date specialist provision and facilities. We cater for students aged 11-19 and currently have 199 students on roll. On Monday, 1 October 2018 Firwood High School became an Academy. We are part of the newly formed Woodbridge Academy Trust, along with our partners, Ladywood School, Ladywood Outreach Service and Woodbridge College.
School goals and ambitions
We identified on our School improvement plan that we wanted to carry out a deep dive into our Pupil wellbeing process. The school is committed to promoting and protecting positive emotional wellbeing within the staff team and understand and value it's importance. One of the main goals of carrying out the award was to use the award to both celebrate what we already do but also to have a clear vision of how we can move things forward and introduce new iniatives that have a real impact on pupil wellbeing. A real focus for us was that we wanted the process to be a journey that all the school community was involved with and for health and wellbeing to be at the forefront of school life.

In March this year we had our OFSTED visit which was a very positive experience and we are all happy with the outcome. The inspectors where vey complementary in our work that we have carried/ carrying out in terms of supporting pupil wellbeing.
